MMH specializes in the selection of data warehousing components and support for all phases of data warehouse development. MMH assist clients to identify the business goals for the data warehouse, define user needs, specify the data required to meet those needs, and determine the size and scope of the data warehousing system. We also assists clients in selecting components of an enterprise data warehousing architecture that focuses on three objectives:
- Provide a rapid ROI and minimize development risk by building the data warehouse bottom-up, one business area at a time
- Ensure that the data warehouse is not populated with dirty source data containing missing, inconsistent, and erroneous data values
- Integrate all components of the architecture with central metadata to avoid development of "stovepipe" data marts that are not integrated across business areas
MMH provides consulting services in support of all phases of the planning and implementation of data warehouses, including the following:
- Training sessions in data warehousing technology designed to bring all members of the team up-to-speed on data warehousing architectures, components, and tools
- Leadership of JAD workshops to support the definition of functional requirements, and selection of the data warehousing architecture, components, tools, development methodology, project phasing, skillsets, timelines, etc.
- Comparison and evaluation of data warehousing components and tools, including data extraction/transformation/load (ETL) tools, relational versus multidimensional target databases, and end-user tools for data access and analysis
- Support for a Proof-of-Concept project to evaluate specific data warehousing components and demonstrate a subset of the data warehousing functionality to be delivered
- Support for the development effort, including specification of data models, specification of source-to-target mappings and transformation rules, loading of target databases, support for all categories of end users, tuning of the system for high performance, and management of the data warehouse
- Continuing support of the development effort through periodic project reviews
